HKPB Scientific announces joint research project with the Materials and Surface Science Institute, University of Limerick.

HKPB Scientific, a provider of superior biocompatible coatings for medical implants announced today the commencement of a year long €100,000 innovation partnership with the Materials and Surface Science Institute (MSSI), University of Limerick focused on developing the proprietary technologies of HKPB Scientific.

“Being a spin-out company from the University of Limerick we are very pleased to embark on this joint research initiative with the MSSI supported by Enterprise Ireland. Having both worked in MSSI Dr. Haverty and I are intimately acquainted with the world-class research facilities of the Institute. The relationships forged with the personnel of the MSSI in the past will assist us greatly in developing our technology and bringing our superior biocompatible coating solutions to market” commented Dr. Brendan Kennedy, Chief Technical Officer, HKPB Scientific.

“This research will further advance the reputation of the MSSI as a centre of excellence in the field of biomedical devices research. In particular it establishes the MSSI at the cutting-edge of research into hydroxyapatite and its’ uses. This project marks a continuation of a collaborative research effort between the founder members of HKPB Scientific and I that has been ongoing now for over 5 years. It is our aim that this relationship will strengthen into the future, ensuring that the core team can build on our scientific achievements of the recent past with further scientific breakthroughs in the near future” remarked Dr. Seamus McMonagle, MSSI member, Scientific Advisor to HKPB Scientific and Principal Investigator on the project.
